Airsho 2009

Despite my love of movies revolving around barnstormers, I had never been to an air show until this past Saturday. Midland, TX conveniently boasts one of the best in the country (according to them, anyway), and we couldn't pass up the chance to see some choreographed explosions and shiny metal behemoths.

I have to admit that photographing high speed aircraft during maneuvers is quite difficult. But I had great fun trying, and got a few neat pictures out of it anyway!

The planes that performed were on display prior to showtime. The Commemorative Air Force, who sponsors the show, is dedicated to preserving the planes and keeping them in operational condition.

Despite facing a direction opposite the sun, donning a hat, and covering my face as much as possible, I was still sunburned somewhat severely. I'm recovering steadily but it's rather uncomfortable. One day I'll learn to wear sunscreen.

I've uploaded clips from the day to YouTube. The planes are a bit hard to see, but it's entertaining nonetheless. Very accurate to what it was like, in my opinion.

My father is coming to visit tomorrow. I haven't seen him since November, almost a year! I'll be happily distracted with his visit until Sunday.
