Snow in the Desert

What's this? Did I take a sudden, unexpected trip to the north? Nope! That's right, it's snowing in western Texas.

This morning, Chris left for work two hours early, around 7:30. Meanwhile, I was trying to sleep. This stopped, however, when she opened the door and yelled, "Elizabeth! Baby, you want to get up!"

"Is it snowing!?" I erupted, leaping out of sleep.

And it was. Holy cow.

I quickly and excitedly informed my family while I made a breakfast of toasted French bread and a cup of soymilk hot cocoa. Then, I was off!

I wandered around my neighborhood for over an hour and walked over three miles, in 25 degree weather.

I heard ornery dogs and kids playing. The air was filled with the sweet scent of fireplaces burning wood.

Drivers were few and far between. All around, I found trees with bright orange and yellow foliage covered in fluffy snow. Beautiful and reminiscent of New England's infrequent October snow showers.

On my journey I encountered a grandfather taking his grandson for a walk to the convenience store, a family playing in their yard (dad was making a video), and four siblings filling plastic cups with the icy white stuff. One of the three girls asked me if I wanted to buy a snow cone. Had I had any money on me, I definitely would have.

A really nice walk it was.
